Day 9

READ: Matthew 25-26

There is so much to talk about in these two chapters. I want to hear what you have to say. Feel free to post comments, prayer requests, or anything else you want to share.

  1. I’d love to know what some of these guys were thinking. How did Judas get to the place where he sought out the chief priests and offered to hand over Jesus to them for a price? What started that seed of bitterness? Christ even confronts him about it. Judas’s response, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Obviously he did not believe in Christ’s deity if he thought he could get away with that one! What was going through his mind when he walked up to the man whom he had been so close to for so long to betray him with a kiss? And what were his thoughts when Christ still calls him friend in the face of that betrayal?
Then there is Peter. I love Peter. He gets it so right sometimes and so wrong at other times. He knows who Christ is. He has spent years learning under Christ, countless hours by His side, and yet there were still so many things he didn’t get. He goes with Christ to Gethsemane…then falls asleep. He rushes bravely and brazenly to defend Christ in the garden…as if Christ couldn’t take care of himself. He vehemently proclaims that he will never deny Christ even if it means his life…then a short while later he denies him, not once but three times.
Yet I take comfort in Peter’s triumphs and epic fails. After all, I mess up too, way more than I’d like. I’m so grateful for a Savior with such compassion and grace!

  2. Thanks Wendi! There really is such a journey/expanse in this reading and like every 2 verses is packed with a mirror and a light. I think that one of our greatest struggles is conforming our mind to Jesus' way of thinking. Like Peter boldly claims that he's ready to die for Christ - but it turns out he's ready to die while fighting, now while being a silent witness. A lot of times we think, yea I believe in God and yea that's worth dying for, but that will never happen because it's America, so let's not worry about it. When in all actuality - it's supposed to happen every day. Sure, we're willing to fight about the "issues" and the validity of God, but are we willing to keep our mouths shut when someone is yelling at us, spewing about our God, our faith? Am I willing to be silent and pray and show unwavering faith and love to prove Him different and true?
