CONSIDER: Chapter 7 talks about the word of God being our foundation. There are two type of people that are pointed out here, the wise man and the foolish man. The wise man is the one who hears the word of God and acts on it. He built his house upon a rock, the solid word of God. When the storms in life came, and the waves came crashing in, he remained standing. The foolish man is the one who also heard the word of God but took no action in his life. He built his house upon a sand foundation. When the rain came, and the winds blew, he collapsed instantly.
ACT: When you hear or read the word of God does it inspire you to take action? If not, you could be building your foundation on shaky ground. Have you carefully considered what God has said in his word? Are there any parts you are ignoring? Pray that God would reveal those things to you, so your foundation might be strengthened and fortified.
There is a real danger of looking into the mirror and not changing what needs correcting. I am guilty of just reading and not stopping to think about it for a while. Chasing99 has challenged me to put more of my thoughts into words. I saw a quote the other day. "Watch what you think, it becomes your words. Watch what you say, it becomes your actions. Watch what you do, it becomes a habit. Watch your habits, it becomes your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny." We all want to stay on the right path and get to a desirable destination in life. We go astray sometimes because we don't internalize the word or speak about what it is saying to us. If we don't take time to think and write, why would it affect us to change? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Sometimes during the day, I can't even remember what I read in the morning - if that's the case, obviously I'm missing the point. This is also helping me get better concentrated and keep the truth throughout the crazy day.
